WHY NOT EXPAND THE NORTHBOUND LANE AT GRAPHITE INDIA?

WHY NOT EXPAND THE NORTHBOUND LANE AT GRAPHITE INDIA?
… and that is exactly what is now happening. Slowly, slowly.

You would’ve noticed how the road “pinches in” at Graphite India junction, in the Northbound (HanumanTemple-to-Y-junction) direction. As a result, Northbound vehicles are stuck in by vehicles wanting to turn right, and vice-versa.

There is space there to create a dedicated Northbound land. Our own Anu Parekh has doggedly followed this case for the past one year, and results are now being seen. Don’t hold your breath just yet, but in the coming months, this junction will see one more lane.

The main difficulty in creating the extra lane is the presence of electric lines and equipment very close to the carriageway. All that needed to go underground. It took Anu many, many visits to the BESCOM MD’s office, and it took her many, many field visits with local engineers. But she did it all, and BESCOM, after a lengthy tendering process, has finally started work on putting all cables underground. When that is done (estimated time: end-July 2015), the BBMP’s major roads division is set to come in, create that extra lane. The formidable Anu has thought that through as well, and organized visits by said BBMP department.

So yes, in the next few months, we should see easing of traffic at that important junction.
