If there is only one thing you did this year, let it be that you voted! It sounds so cliched doesnt it? Yet, did you vote last time? Only 23% of Bangalore’s Citizens voted in the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections. Here’s the thing. Whitefield Rising and similar folks can go about cleaning Whitefield and making impacts in many areas all we want but it can never replace good governance. “But who to vote for, they are all so bad” or “The polling booth is far away”, “We were on vacation”, “Somehow we just missed registering”, “My registration is in another state”. NONE of these are excuses a responsible citizen can make. Whats more, if you can read this, there is the extra onus on you to ensure that those around you that may not be as aware are educated by you and helped towards getting their voter registration done. From January to March 2014, Volunteer for a Better India is setting up shop in Whitefield. Naval a changemaker and his friends, all citizen just like you and I  from Whitefield, are investing personal time and energy to volunteer to sit at various booths across Whitefield just to help you register. Of course you can do it online but many of you have questions.   Despite this, your name may not show up on the voter list but you will have tried.  Remember, inaction is actually action in the opposite direction. Know where they will be at by watching our [facebook](http://www.facebook.com/whitefieldrising) page. So here is all you need to do

  1. Register online now! (Like right now). Note that after March, no more registrations will be accepted. Also, if there are errors you will be left with no time to make changes.
  2. Help your staff register as well! Take pride in how many adults you can help register.
  3. If you have questions or the online site is not working, watch our “Events” page or our Facebook Page. Every weekend, volunteers will be at a few locations in Whitefield to answer and accept your forms.
  4. The date of the election is not announced yet and likely wont be till late March. If you are making vacation plans, expect that this is in the May/June timeframe. Please Please consider traveling outside that time period or be prepared to change your plans. This is what can make India better. You will be proud explaining this to your child and that its for his/her future.
  5. Check that your name is in the “Voter List” . Dont worry if you didnt get your voter id. So long as your name is on the list, you are fine.
  6. Once the candidates are announced, understand who they are. Reserve your judgement and your voting preference until you are well informed.
  7. Go Vote in May. The Polling booth will be right in your area. And take with you all that you can influence to “vote” without being purchased.

Don’t be left feeling embarrassed in May. Get ready now.
