Sanitary Waste

An easy way to think of this is: Anything that has touched any living body.  Typically, this trash is generated in your bathroom.

Typical items include:

Anything that can have the fluids from a "living body".

Anything that can have the fluids from a “living body”.

  • Disposable Diapers
  • Sanitary Napkins
  • Cotton Earbuds
  • Soiled Cotton
  • Hair
  • Nails
  • Dog Poop
  • Waxing Strips
  • Toilet Cleaning Brush
  • Bandages
  • Needles used for insulin and the like

Just as you dont let human excreta lie around for reasons of disease, this too needs to be disposed responsibly and “incinerated”. There are special incinerators that process them in a manner that the residue from the burning is not harmful to us. (Note that Burning Garbage is about the worst thing one can do). In Whitefield, we have Sriram Kuchimanchi from Smarter Dharma who is trying to take it a step further and see if an incinerator can be installed in the BBMP trucks and process this trash right away. Good luck Sriram!

All we are required to do on a daily basis is to collect the above, wrap in a newspaper with a red X and thats it. Dont put it in a plastic bag. It will defeat the purpose! Really, its all about not having your neighbors sanitary waste seep into your water.  Thats what is happenning now 🙁

Wrap in newspaper, mark a red X and leave for BBMP with no plastic bag around it.
